Meaning Behind The Dream Catcher

What do dream catchers mean to you? This is my view on them ...

Have you ever wondered where dream catchers originate?
Well, they originate from Ojibwa, otherwise known by different names such as Chippewa Nation. They began creating dream catchers during the Pan Indian movement in the 1960s and 70s.
This top part of the dream catcher would be based on a willow hoop and then a loose net or web would be woven onto it.

Hung above the sleeping area, what they call the "Dream Snare", the web part of the dream catcher, is said to catch all dreams just as spider webs catch all that come into contact with it.
They would then decorate the "dream Snare" with sacred objects such as feathers or beads.

The bad dreams were said to stay trapped in the web part and the good dreams would filter down onto the person sleeping.

Later adopted by the Native Americans they used it as an identity and believed it symbolized unity.

My view on the dream catcher is different from their believes.
The sacred object that has the most significance to me is the feather.
I've always liked the natural, soft & light characteristics of feathers.
They remind me of the soft and light way that children live their lives, stress free.
Living life naturally and taking most things lightly, children don't care much for money but rather about what I feel is truly important, happiness.

I think it's important to keep this approach to living our life’s as adults.
In today's fast paced lifestyle, many people get tied down and don't have much time for anything other than their general responsibilities. I feel that people should be encouraged to take things a little more lightly as children do.

To me the web part of the dream catcher should catch more of the natural, soft, and light characteristics of life.

Weather you've enjoyed hearing about my believe or the original believe behind the dream catcher, if you've got one at home it should encourage the good in your life and hopefully sweet dreams tonight.
