Creative Response to a Dream Catcher

Throughout my other articles I have spoken about the origins of the dream catcher and it's symbolic meaning to me. Its symbolic meaning is that it should ‘catch one’s dreams’. My creative response uses both connotations to the word ‘dream’. While maintaining a dream-like look & feel, it is designed to encourage viewers to think about their aspirational dreams. 

Using Photoshop CS5, I have kept a dream-like appearance through creating a softly coloured hazy background and the use of psychedelic colours in the repetition of open reaching hands. To depict the importance of following one’s dreams, I chose to use an American Indian boy and a tree growing out of the open hand.  The boy is focused on his dream catcher, while holding it in a position as one would hold a fishing rod. Thus implying the focus of catching something particularly a dream. The tree symbolizes the growth one receives when fulfilling his or her aspirational dreams.
